June 16

Yesterday was Sunday. After attending our meetings we had Carl and the Elders over for lunch. I had made a large chicken and dumpling stew but the dumplings didn’t get quite done. We also had apple pie for Dewayne’s father’s day. He really liked it.

We had Carl with us the rest of the day. We went to the Dehm home and gave them a lesson on the Plan of Salvation. They seem to be active but he doesn’t stay for priesthood. They have been to the temple but the kids don’t have much knowledge of the gospel. I took my guitar and we sang some songs that they should have known but they didn’t. We will visit one more time and give another lesson or family home evening. We are trying to encourage them to have family home evening so we hope that it will continue. Brother Dehm drives truck so he is gone a lot. They also have three dogs and seven cats. They live in a doublewide trailer home.

It rained most of the day. When it rains here it really comes down in buckets. If they didn’t have drainage systems we would be flooded in short order.

We took Carl Sharrod and the elders to Vidor in the evening. Carl received his patriarchal blessing. He wanted us to be there as well as the elders. He received a beautiful blessing. He’s going into the service soon and we pray that he will remain faithful to the gospel. From there we attended a family home evening for the single adults. We had a lot of fun.

We didn’t get home until 10:00 p.m. We went from Orange to Vidor, which is twenty minutes away, and then back to Vinton, LA to take Carl home, which is twenty minutes, the other direction. We covered a lot of miles.

DeWayne doesn’t feel well this morning so I’m letting him sleep. Our 10:30 appointment was cancelled.

Just an update. We are going to dinner with President Lake. I guess he will meet with the Stake President tonight. He does that regularly.

Thanks for the cards and letters and phone calls for Father’s Day. The work is moving along. The church is true. We send our love and blessings.
