June 7

Thursday was our p-day. I cooked a big meal of sweet and sour meatballs. We popped some corn and took it to the Elders who where playing basketball at the church. We also visited the genealogy library in the ward and tried to look up some names for Brother Phillips. We didn’t find any. From there we went to the Zylks. We wanted to give them a lesson but it didn’t work out that way. All the elders came to eat. We had Cajun soup with lots of shrimp in it. It tasted pretty good. We also had potato salad. She sent us home with a large bowl of each. We will feed the missionaries the remaining food.

Following the meal we went to the ward and had scripture study. We invited three people, Betty, Marilyn and Christina. I think everyone enjoyed reading from the Book of Mormon. Sarah called and asked if we were going to have it but she didn’t show up.

Friday we taught Joanna the 3rd and 4th lessons and committed her to baptism. She knows the church is true. We hope she will come to church tomorrow. We had a very good lesson. We gave her the Word of Wisdom. She does drink tea and coffee. She said that she would work on it.

In the afternoon we gave Brother McFarland a lesson on genealogy and showed a DVD. From there we went to Venton to teach Brother Chercehere. We also gave him a lesson on genealogy and helped him feel out his family. We were surprised at his memory of dates. Both of these brethren we will try to get over to the ward to check on there family lines.

After visiting there we headed to Starks. We didn’t realize how far out these people were. We finally found Sister Poole. She has an interesting home. All kinds of animals are on their walls and fireplace, etc., bear, lynk, turtle, two deer, two squirrels and other animals. They have this large bird, which sat on my shoulder. He also talks. They took us outside and showed us their pet alligator. I got to feed him. There were also turtles in the pond. They are a very interesting family. She is the only member in her family. She lost two sons to auto accidents. That would be difficult.

Today we were supposed to have lunch at the Yarbrough’s but their dog was sick and needed to be taken to the vet who will put the dog down. The people here treat their cats and dogs like their children. We took the elders to a couple of their appointments and we stopped to see some of our callbacks. We are still going to check more people.
